How to Clean the Outside of UGGs
It’s best to wear your UGG boots and slippers in dry weather, but stepping in a puddle or a mound of snow isn’t the end of the world. Here’s a step-by-step process for cleaning the outside of your UGGs:
Step 1: Prep Your Shoes
Gently brush the exterior to loosen the nap and remove any dirt or dust that’s collected on the surface. Be sure to follow the nap of the hide by starting at the top and brushing downward.
Step 2: Wet Your Shoes
Use a wet sponge to lightly dampen the entire area. If you oversaturate the suede, water may seep into the lining.
Step 3: Clean the Exterior
Now it’s time for the suede shampoo (a one-to-one mixture of water and white vinegar works too). Start cleaning from the top with gentle circular motions.
Step 4: Wipe with a Wet Cloth
Use a damp cotton cloth to remove your cleaner of choice. A few swipes across the surface should do it.
Step 5: Apply Conditioner
Evenly distribute the conditioner across the surface with a fresh cloth or brush.
Step 6: Stuff Paper Towels Inside
Ensure your shoes maintain their shape during the drying stage by stuffing enough paper towels inside each shoe to fill out the interior. This will also help soak up any water that seeps through.
Step 7: Set Them Out to Air-Dry
Mechanical drying is too harsh—even on a gentle cycle—so skip the tumble. Prop your shoes outside in a cool, well-ventilated area for 24-48 hours before wearing them again.
